Children Functioning @ 14 Years and Older:Internet Safety for Teenagers
Your child is no longer a kid, he/she is a full-blown teenager. It is extremely difficult to assure Internet Safety for Teenagers. The obvious reason is they have that need for privacy and independence.
Surveys by law enforcement agencies show that 77% of the targets for online predators were age 14 or older. Couple this with our teenagers demanding "freedom" and our job as parents just got tougher!
Your teen will want to have his computer behind closed doors. They will demand total privacy!
They will unlikely share with you their experiences on the computer, good or bad, and you will have no idea if they are at risk.
By this age they are also educated enough that if they feel you are checking up on them by accessing their computer to, as example, read their email, they will take action to block your intrusion.
Our teens know how to delete the browser history files, temp folders, cookies, how to password protect, etc... Use message tracker and know everything about your child
I am sure you have noticed that as our children become older we seem to have less and less options to protect them from risks over the net.
