The most visible impact of international law on national legal systems is in the area of human rights. The United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, and its legal thesis topics have served as the foundation for numerous international treaties and conventions that protect individuals' fundamental rights. These treaties and conventions have been ratified by the vast majority of countries and are now part of many countries' domestic laws.
